Lake Carezza is often defined by its colour, turquoise waters drawing crowds in the height of summer. Winter tells a different story.

On this visit, the lake was frozen and subdued, its surface broken by abstract patterns locked in place beneath a layer of ice. Snow rested lightly across the trees from the night before, while sharp rock faces emerged through low cloud, partially revealed, never fully given.

The scene felt pared back and deliberate. Colour gave way to texture. Reflection to form. What is usually celebrated for its vibrancy became something quieter, more restrained.

A sharp reminder that familiarity can disguise depth, and that some landscapes are at their most compelling when the expected version disappears entirely.
