Frozen Disorder
South Tyrol, Italy
This scene revealed itself mid-hike, only partially visible at first, a brief opening between trees offering a glimpse of colour below. The lake held a deep winter blue, set against a dense layering of snow-dusted forest, mist, and rising ground beyond.
The composition felt busy, but balanced. Each section of the frame carried its own weight, frozen trees in the foreground, shifting fog cutting across the valley, and the steady presence of the mountains above. Nothing settled for long. The mist moved quickly, reshaping the landscape as I stood there, watching it change.
The vertical panoramic frame allowed the scene to unfold from top to bottom, emphasising the variety of forms and textures within a single view. It’s less about one moment than many happening at once, a winter landscape caught in motion.
