October’s Edge
Lake District, England
By this point in the season, autumn had settled fully into the hillside. Colour layered itself naturally, rising from the water’s edge in quiet tiers, each tree holding its own variation of yellow, amber, and deeper rust tones.
The frame stays deliberately tight, allowing the density of the foliage to carry the weight of the image. Small pockets of green remain, interrupting the warmth just enough to keep the balance from tipping too far. Below, the water holds everything in place, softened but still present, acting as a calm base rather than a feature.
Nothing here feels transitional. This is autumn at its most complete, briefly stable, before it begins to fall away.
