Uncertain Light
Surrey, England
During the height of bluebell season, I set out on one of my daily lockdown walks, a short hike into a nearby woodland I’d passed countless times but never truly stopped to see.
The canopy was dense, allowing light through only in fleeting pockets. This single shaft caught my attention. With evening sun slipping fast and the light shifting by the second, there was no time to hesitate. Shooting wide open, I isolated the trunk from its surroundings, letting the shallow depth of field and natural spotlight do the work. It felt almost staged, a quiet moment theatrically lit, entirely unplanned.
In a time filled with uncertainty, this brief pause mattered. Even in restriction, beauty still finds a way to surface, softly, and without asking anything in return.
