Autumn’s Cascade

Lake District, England

This scene wasn’t part of the plan. A small deviation on a woodland path led us here, away from the main route and into something quieter.

The waterfall reveals itself in layers. Water drops through dark rock in stepped sections, held in place by dense woodland on either side. Autumn colour gathers around the frame, not as decoration, but as structure, enclosing the flow and giving it weight.

The composition feels contained despite its movement. Soft water contrasts against rigid stone, while the surrounding foliage presses inward, narrowing the view and focusing attention on the fall itself.

It’s a reminder that some landscapes don’t announce themselves. They sit just off the path, waiting to be noticed.
